Part 11 – Writing a Diary – My Experience

April 2024

A very good day to all of you. I, Balkumari, welcome you all in my 11th blog. Today, I would like to share my experiences of writing a diary. Before being a member of the WAWCAS Program, I had no idea about writing a diary and why should I do that? I considered it a waste of time. However, after being in the program, I have realized that writing a diary is an integral part of our lives.

I had learned to write a diary in the last day of the 7-day business training. Sima, our trainer, had taught us everything about writing a diary. On the same day, I, along with everyone else, had received the Member’s Diary. This is a big thing for me. This isn’t just a diary for me, it is a book of my dreams, where I could see my past, present and my future as well. All the experiences, all the happiness, all the sorrows.  I have them written in the diary. It is very close to me. The diary has many pictures which speaks for themselves, which make it very easy for other women who cannot read and write.

In the diary, I have recorded all my monthly income and expenditures. I compare them every month. This has actually helped me to identify unnecessary expenditure each month and I make sure that I don’t do the same next month. It is not only about my finances.  I have also written about my strengths and weaknesses – weaknesses I must get rid of. All these exercises motivate me even more to be better.

I have got so close to my diary, that I write all the activities I do throughout the day. After I am done with all of my work, I sit down with my diary and start writing. Seeing me writing and reading, even my children get motivated and they also sit down with their homework. I feel that it certainly has brought positive changes in my children as well.

Before, I rarely had time for myself. But now, every day before I got to bed, I give some time to myself and put all of my heart into the diary. Despite a strong desire, I could not continue my studies beyond 7th standard. I can read and write, but I never did it, as I was always occupied with the duties in the home and the field. I had almost forgotten that I could read and write. But I have no regrets because now I can literally feel new energy inside of me. My hands, which used to shiver with fear while writing, is now rock steady. This is all because of my diary writing practices.

I always show my diary to Sima and she supports and motivates me always. When I look back in my diary, I remember all my past and it helps me to reflect on myself. I give all the credit to WAWCAS Program for all these positive changes that have come to me. Had it not been the diary given to me, these changes would never have been possible. I, for sure, would not have been able to uplift myself. Hence, I will never leave my habit of writing the diary. Rather I will improve it.

Thank you.
